Shadow Business Secretary Supports BCBN, 2015
The Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) held its Fifth annual Muslim Leadership Dinner last night with keynote speeches from Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, Edward Davey MP, Chuka Umunna MP and business entrepreneur, James Caan, best known from the television program Dragons’ Den – collectively celebrated all that is great about Britain’s Muslims.
The Shadow Business Secretary, Chuka Umunna spoke about the strength of the Muslim community and its major role in Britain’s economy and society. Muslims give more to charity than any other faith group – addressing national problems such as the issue of rehabilitation within the prison system – galvanising support within our local communities, developing initiatives and projects for the betterment of all – to serve a common cause.
In his speech last night, Chuka Umunna said, “The MCB and Muslim community should not only be celebrated, but serve as inspiration to all of our society. Take the example of the Better Community Business Network. A group of businesses got together to support local causes, to give back and use their skills to better the communities and societies around them. I know they have raised well over a half a million pounds on programmes such as mentoring children and preparing prisoners for release. When this government cut support and counselling for Domestic Violence on the NHS, they stepped in to provide it. That is inspiration for all of us – and a powerful contribution to our society”.
In the past, BCBN has been honoured to receive the support and endorsement of HRH Prince of Wales; Deputy Prime Minister, Rt Hon. Nick Clegg; Baroness Hanham CBE; Secretary of State for Business, Innovation & Skills, Dr Vince Cable MP; Rt Hon. Eric Pickles and Rt Hon. Sadiq Khan.
