Al Mizan Trust: Mother and Baby Kits
BCBN awarded the Al Mizan Trust a grant of £2,678.1 to fund Mother and Baby Kits for vulnerable people and back to school backpacks. These were distributed to local branches of Home-Start across London, which gave them to families that needed the packs. The Mother & Baby Kits contained essential baby items for new mothers.
With 79% of single parents living in difficult financial circumstances and the average cost of raising a child during its first year being £11,000, there are a significant number of parents that cannot afford essential baby items. These Mother & Baby Kits provide a lifeline to these families during a stressful time.
The items funded in our Mother & Baby Kits were bodysuits, sleep-suits, hooded towels, blankets, muslin cloths, baby hats, scratch mitts, and bibs. The Back to School Backpacks contained school uniform vouchers and essential stationery supplies for children. Children from poorer families, on average, have lower educational attainment than their richer classmates.
