There are hundreds of Muslim young people across London who feel unable to cope because they experience poor mental health and wellbeing, feelings of anxiety, stress, bullying, isolation and loneliness; all of which have further impacts upon their educational achievements and attainment, have negative experiences of school and limited future aspirations.
Delivered in partnership by The Children’s Society and Better Community Business Network, the ‘Resilient Me’ Programme is a unique service designed to pilot a ‘Whole School Approach’ to better understand, recognise and support the Mental Health and Wellbeing needs of young Muslims across schools and communities in London. A whole school approach to mental health and wellbeing enables pupils to flourish, learn and succeed by providing opportunities for them to develop the strengths and coping skills that underpin resilience. The positive mental health and wellbeing of pupils within school is fundamental to the underlying mission and values and their culture, mental health and wellbeing
BCBN is working in partnership to develop an anti-bullying campaign and programme which addresses anti-Muslim rhetoric in schools and raises awareness on Muslim practices and identity to foster convergence, cross-cultural understanding, dialogue, religious literacy and understanding of Islam in schools. BCBN will also be drawing upon the expertise, insight and experience of various Muslim organisations and initiatives to help develop specialist material and resources that address these areas.
The Children’s Society is a national charity working with the country’s most vulnerable children and young people. The organisation has worked with over 11,000 young people last year, whilst their policy changes will improve the lives of more than half a million children. ‘Resilient Me’ is an ongoing programme delivered by The Children’s Society which offers an early intervention and child-centric programme addressing the multiple challenges that young people face in relation to mental well-being and emotional resilience. The Children’s Society have gained experience having worked with young people of all faiths since their establishment in 1881.
